The Farmers’ Seed Network (FSN) is proud to have participated in a project led by the Sino-German Agricultural Centre (DCZ), under the Innovation and Transformation Dialogue (ITD) framework of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). This initiative established a German-Chinese expert network dedicated to the sustainable use and management of agrobiodiversity.
Through collaboration among scientists, agricultural practitioners, and civil society organizations from both countries, the project aimed to enhance the conservation, recultivation, and sustainable use of cultivated plant varieties, particularly focusing on old and rare crops. These efforts are crucial in addressing key challenges at the nexus of food systems, climate change, and biodiversity conservation.
The expert network provided a platform for interactive exchange and fostered innovative approaches to bolster agrobiodiversity, improve the climate resilience of food systems, and promote rural economic development. Drawing on the experiences of both Germany and China, the project highlights practical solutions and recommendations for integrating on-farm agrobiodiversity conservation into broader policy discussions.
We invite you to read the final report, which encapsulates the project’s findings, insights, and policy recommendations, serving as a resource for stakeholders across the globe.
